THE GARRETTS: OUR STORY

We thought people might enjoy learning a little bit more about us (i.e. the innkeepers). Most bed & breakfast websites have only information about the rooms, and, while our website does too, we also wanted to ask the question: what about the people behind the scenes? The ones who keep the bed and breakfast running? We are those people, and this is our story!
We met on a blind date in Salt Lake City, Utah, on the evening of October 22nd. Neither one of us wanted to attend the date, which involved having dinner at a mutual friend's house, for various reasons. Needless to say, we were both bored enough with the current dating scene to give it a go. We did not regret it!
The moment we both laid eyes upon each other, it was love at first sight. Even right down to the pink, fuzzy-edged cloud you always see in cartoons. We both couldn't stop talking to each other, to the point of ignoring everything and everyone else in the room. At the end of date, we agreed to see each other the following weekend. In another two months, we were discussing marriage. About three months after that, Ryan proposed with an antique emerald ring found at an art gallery. We were married June 10th, 2006, in Canyon Glen Park, Utah. It was a simple but lovely ceremony. Neither of us wanted a fancy wedding - we only wanted each other. Our honeymoon was spent visiting different vineyards in southern Oregon.
We remained in Utah for another year while I (Jillian) finished up my degree in geology at the University of Utah. About this time, the idea began to form of moving back to Oregon to be closer to my "roots." We made several trips back and forth between Utah and Oregon during our house-hunting adventures. The house we finally decided on was a bit of a "fixer upper." It hadn't been lived in for about a year, and was in desperate need of some updating and repair. We nicknamed it "The Project" for the sheer number of remodeling/changes that we wanted to do. We are still in the process of remodeling (does it ever really end??). Remodeling is akin to the snowball effect: it starts off small, and then begins getting bigger and bigger as it rolls downhill and you decide to replace more and more things. We are opening up our Bed & Breakfast "incomplete," in the sense that we have not finished all of the remodeling we have planned right now, but it is still complete enough to be functional and an enjoyable stay for guests! The main focus is the animals anyway, right?
